Should'Ve Never Talked Poem by Jacqueline Dougherty

Should'Ve Never Talked

Some things just can't, no..shouldn't be said
yet it's said, so what now?

I tell you kindly to not speak yet you go on and on
talking and speakin, so what now?

These words sting like a knife in my heart,
the wounds are deep so am I dead?

Yet, you don't notice so now as you talk
and talk, the small hope is dead...

Some words must never be said and yet you say them
without seeing my pain, so now what?

The daggers you throw cause me horrible pain,
you don't notice, so now what?

Am I supposed to take this or ignore the hurt
and go on pretending to be fine?

Or am I to sit and listen to the profanity,
why can't I whine?

Once you say it, you can't reclaim it
so now you're doomed, you're dead.

Why can't I say what's on my mind and toss
some words too? It's already dead.

Through all your words you mutiliated it,
crushed the last piece of hope.

If only you heard me say don't..If only,
you wouldn't be hanging there with a rope....

My heart wouldn't be dead, the words
would be caged...

Instead you persisted and kept trudging
and you raged..and you raged....

Such a lovely day gone wrong thanks to those
painful words..Should've never talked..

No here we are, torn, hurting, in pain.
Should've never talked...
