Shoes On The Ground Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Shoes On The Ground

Shoes on the ground

Many pens rattle and
-the keyboards are ticking
-Manchester's journalists
-the authors and poets
-all busy are writing
-and the hearts are beating
-for the shouts and blood
-for the shoes left behind
Stampede
Stampede
Stampede

In hall of music
-rare mature, many kids
-right after the singing
Stampede
Stampede
Stampede

Such has been for many
-men, women in Mecca
-pilgrimage, part taking
-Caracas when soldiers keep shooting
-South Sudan, Hutu games repeating
-and nineteen seventy nine in Iran
-I observed Shah's guard when gunning
Stampede
Stampede
Stampede

Brutal on one side and victims in running
-shoes remain scattered in bad shape
-I have heard them talking
-about them right before and after
-mob attack, and terror, ambushes and looting
-or raping by force and then burning
Stampede
Stampede
Stampede

Displaced and in rush, of fear escaping I have seen!
