Sergey Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Sergey

With the games of borders
Who is who, what is what?
The Sergey’s history
Is funny; tragedy
His father was Uzbek
And mother of Ukraine
Both from Soviet; (USSR)
And leader; Stalin
Father’s job, KGB

Knife and ax made Izba
When he worked as Tajik
And handled KGB

Mother told lullaby
Sergey heard
Baba Yaga

He grew like lord’s son
Driver and dad’s car
He purchased Jeans, Levis
And listened to records
The Beatles and bee gees; all western
Being Sergey he handled
Not the rest of nation
The system corrupted

Country fell apart
Came divide
And divide
And divide
“What am I? ”
He questions.
Tajik men kick him out
Uzbeks’ doors are all locked
Ukraine in civil-war
Sergey is a homeless
What is this politics?
