Secret Poem by Simon Odhiambo

Secret

I was once told
That a secret is mine alone
And I agreed to keep this a secret
Until yesterday...I heard someone shout it in a meeting
There is no secret between two, yours alone it is

I admire you secretely
This should be mine alone I think
But today it is burning my heart
To declare my love for you in public
But I choose to sit tight on my feelings and let it kill me
For there is no secret between two, mine alone it is

I have to share this feeling
Otherwise it will burst my chest open
It is strong and hot within my heart
This secret of mine will kill me...if not shouted in public

So I call a meeting
To share my only secret
And bring it to the know of friend and foe
I open my mouth and stammer and stutter
These words fail to form, as I remember the initial say
There is no secret between two, yours alone it must be

I look up and down and smile
As words form in my mind in bits
and this poem has to end now, the secret still I keep
Coz there is no secret between two, mine alone it remains
