Simon Odhiambo Poems

Am not alone in this I think
Three or Four of us sometimes Five
Waiting for letters to arrive in time
Letter box packed with lots, not ours
...

One Poem at a time, Is what you can read
Try two and despair, that is where it will lead

One channel at a time, Is what you can watch
...

Great writers, great poets
Of time now and those gone by
Hear me out, as I wail the pen
The burial, I will not attend
...

What time is it?
Is a simple question to answer
A watch, a calendar or may be a clock
May help with the response
...

Men should not cry, you told me mama
And I will not, but will shed just a tear
Just to feel how you felt, when your tears flowed
Your cheeks were always wet, I recall dear mother
...

Is to pass away peacefully in my sleep
Just as my father did...
And not shouting for help like the folkes
He was carrying home that fateful night
...

It is bedtime 'my half' and the vow still fresh

You promised to make me a bed
Of love and trust not metals and timber
Wide enough for two, in sorrow and bliss
...

This man lost his paying job
And his wife left this drunkard too
His children not to stay with him
All left this dad alone
...

Today I stand at this gate
With anticipation and want
I look down the only path
Your footprints still fresh
...

I cry for men
I cry for them

For they said I erred,
...

Hands off, Controversial
Urgency and common purpose
Satisfaction
...

12.

I was once told
That a secret is mine alone
And I agreed to keep this a secret
Until yesterday...I heard someone shout it in a meeting
...

A thief and a night-runner
At night in a foreign home
This caused a total fuss
As they ran from each others wrath
...

I knew it all along
From the way you would advance
I threw it all alone
When you gave me the dancing chance
...

Of thugs and guns you've no fear
Of snakes and fakes you can bear
Poetry is beyond you so you claim
It is the only chill down the spine
...

Three bodies,
one, two, three
All dead, by this road
...

We are all taken, you and I
They were all broken, your heart and mine
They are always meeting, your eyes and mine
Are this signs deceiving, we still doubt
...

Unknown, lost and gone
We live in darkness
Green buidings for green trees
Clear roads for clear rivers
...

A card to show and a name to share
I am a member

A meeting to attend and a sign below
...

I sit here waiting to be called, and looking
At this sealed white envelope, and thinkng quietly
The contents already, I know well
I was told even before the letter got me
...

Simon Odhiambo Biography

A Father, husband, a professional, a poet. Passionate about life and strongly obsessive about poetry. Poetry makes me say what I feel, how I feel it and when I feel like. But who am I? I smile, I read, I write, I walk, I see, I breath, I think, I thank, I pray, I believe, I manage, I advise, I love, I like, I give and sometimes...I cry ...I SMILE AGAIN...)

Waiting In Vain

Am not alone in this I think
Three or Four of us sometimes Five
Waiting for letters to arrive in time
Letter box packed with lots, not ours
Uncollected letters fill our mails this day
And the waiting never comes to an end I guess

Am not alone in this I hope
Six or Seven of us sometimes Two
Trying to dial a number, but once or twice
It goes through and am eager...It rings
Sorry...wrong number please try again
At all wrong numbers never get engaged

I decide to pay a visit instead of hope
The flight arrived in time today
We wait for our bags to come in vain
The conveyer rolls and rolls and none
Am not alone in this wait today
Eight or Nine sometimes Ten in pain
Our buggage will not arrive this day
