Second Star To The Right Poem by Amy Backus

Second Star To The Right

We dance through disaster
and leave footprints across the past
We're getting lost,
tumbling down the rabbit hole in pain
swirling into mistakes and addictions
Spending nights sticking needles in veins
and crushing up pills
passing out and ignoring phone calls,
trying to survive the only way we know,
but baby, we'll always find our way back

The weight pushes down harder as we grow
but it's not impossible to still fly

You're stronger than you think.
Why else would you shine so bright?
How else could you reach this lost little girl?
You're the rarest form
like shooting stars and precious gems
You're priceless and I cherish you
more than words could say

Let's fly away to Never Land
and become lost amongst sparkling rainbows
and mermaid lagoons
The pain can't reach us there.

Whenever I'm sinking and fading away,
I just have to look to you,
gaze up at the sky
and find the second star to the right.

for my best friend in the universe.
'The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true
The second star to the right
Shines with a light that's rare
And if it's Never Land you need
It's light will lead you there
Twinkle, twinkle little star
So I'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead me to the one who loves me
And when you bring him my way
Each time we say 'Goodnight'
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right'
