Sea Poem by Shruti Goswami

Sea

I feel the sea receding
Inside me
Baring the wet sands
And I set fire
With a tiny flicker of desire
To the wind
That brings back your memories
And season my life
Like the salt that is rife
Here, there, everywhere.

The tear wells have all dried up
I dig and dig
Deeper and deeper
Until muddy waters
Sprout from beneath.
The water is not sweet.
There was an incursion
An invasion of the land
By the sea.

Like you invaded my nubile mind
Against my wish and will
And then left for the sea
Leaving me to die.

Did you feel me whisper
When the wind blew in your hair?
Caressed you like I did?
Or was it the lure
Of a maiden fair
Or a mermaid of desire
That you left for salty waters
But I have a seed beneath.
It grows in water sweet.

You gave me no name
Just a longing kiss
Of someone who would never return
Never care or ever miss.

I carry my hope within me
A hope that grows and glows
Like the radiance of the moon
On a full moon night.
And I will pull the waters ashore.
