Scott Of The Antarctic Poem by Paul Reed

Scott Of The Antarctic

O, intrepid Scott
There was no need for you to perish
To give your life and all you'd got
For just your memory to cherish;

The bitter and forsaken South Pole
Is still shivering there today
Unmoved by your ambitious goal
Long iced-over tracks of the sleigh;

The bleak and lonely blizzards
That drove into your eyes
Frosted spicules in the gizzards
Carried on the cruel wind's sighs;

Some things never change
Despite man's endeavour
Some things we can't re-arrange
Some things are just there for ever.
