I cannot write as Pablo does
Too full of storms to speak of love
Too full of pride to stand and face
The bitter truth that drowned my grace

My heart was steeled by clever lips
Spouting flames and sinking ships
A fire so fierce it scorched my soul
Then disappeared in squalls of snow

Once naïve, as green as grass
Believed that love could tip the glass
The prize so bright, my eyes confused
A chameleon dressed in may hues

I played a game of hide and seek
Behind the veil, I kissed the cheek
A handsome face, with no regard
As I stumbled, falling hard

Glitter eyes, so full of guile
Preyed upon my inner child
Was mesmerized by whispered songs
My heart too quick to sing along

I burst in flames, was taken in
A wolf that wore another skin
Was blinded by his winsome ways
He knew the right things to say

I gave my soul in the dead of night
He bared his teeth to have a bite
Swallowed whole, my tender heart
Then faded fast into the dark

I cannot write as Pablo does
I cannot whisper words of love
I wear the scars that will not fade
I'll take them with me to the grave
