Saying Goodbye To Maya (One Last Love Letter To This World)

Somewhere in darkness stands a lit candle
an intense relationship symbolized
by a burning flame

A scripted love, a twisted fictitious fairy tale
childhood sweethearts whose love overcame
we fought through adversity of reality
yet our efforts were to be in vain

Overcoming weakness to say goodbye, came from a place of strength
I had to escape what was conceived in pain
to build a future without you,
one which I would not be confined within walls of perverse fantasy
for a false love once befell me,
never again should I suffer the same fate

Separated forever, we have gone our separate ways
for I can see clearly through that veiled illusion of beauty
your mask has dropped, I see your true face
no further shall I be enamoured by an illusion
someone who will lie to my face
in a world which hides the truth in plain sight
you almost devoured my heart and took away my soul

I was once a fool in love but when deceit becomes transparent
how much longer could I hold onto an infatuation which was slowly being erased?
your make up has faded away
angelic beauty I once saw had been replaced
by a monstrous ugliness of a world
that existed long before I first saw your face

As I put ink to paper, I write this final love letter
Saying goodbye to Maya
this is the last time I will ever hold any thoughts of you close to me again
now my heart and mind can rest for I am at peace
with a relationship with a world once dear to me
being engulfed by flames from that candle we once lit
I have accepted that now the veil has been lifted
life will never be the same again.
