There by my side through thick and thin
You gave my life a positive spin
Day by day I'd check your room
In hopes your smile could consume
Confusion, anger, pain
Dad to day it felt the same
Your smile like a soothing rain
You took me from a long, long fall
Made me believe I could stand tall
Gave me more than love and kindness
Without you I walked in blindness
How to show my gratitude
I only hope these words will do
Thank you for these last eight years
For standing behind me as I faced my fears
