Safe In Now Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Safe In Now

Rating: 5.0

Rain on me
The light of day
Discouraging
Laughter and play
Drops of love
Escape my veins
The hurt of you
Can't be chased away

I am running out of sound
The musics guide is wearing down
My fingers graze the sky
Sitting under clouds of lies
In the land of misfit songs
Find a beat where we all belong
The stars caught with dreamers dreams
It's as bad as it really seems

I am afraid
I am scared
When the darkness holds my soul
I know there's no one there to hold
I am strong
I am peace
Like a river I am flowing
Running with my eyes wide open

Don't let go
The sun will warm your heart of ice
The queen of love can save you
The god herself who made you
Don't let go
Drive fast down open highway roads
The streets will carry on somehow
The wires spark the mind in now

Sing to me
My only song
The only one I know
Dimming in my lonely soul
Drain the dreams
Of wanted hands
Cruising down rusty lines
Tell me is it such a crime?

I am running out of sound
The musics guide is wearing down
My fingers graze the sky
Sitting under clouds of lies
In the land of misfit songs
Find a beat where we all belong
The stars caught with dreamers dreams
It's as bad as it really seems

I am afraid
I am scared
When the darkness holds my soul
I know there's no one there
I am strong
I am peace
Like a river I am flowing
Running with my eyes wide open

Don't let go
The sun will warm your heart of ice
The queen of love can save you
The god herself who made you
Don't let go
Drive fast down open highway roads
The streets will carry on somehow
The wires spark the mind in now

In now
In now
The now is where the life you lead
Can never crumble down
In now
In now
Stay with me in the now today
Our feet will never touch the ground

Safe in now.

I agree with the comments by Daniel, make your poems free from repetition and it will give true and fair meaning.

The god herself who made me is all whom I've ever sought to touch, to know, to not let go. 'Man is perishable. That may be; but let us perish resisting, and if it be nothingness that awaits us, do not let us so act that it shall be justice' (Étienne Pivert de Senancour) .

Scrolling down a poem which contains significant repetition is awkward. Only three stanzas visible at a time makes locating the repetitions really hard, but at very least the repetitions must mean there is no closure to the issues you raise. The first and last stanzas are not repeated, so they must be the key situation of the poem. In the first things are falling apart. Love can't be held on to, a lost love causes pain, there's no escape into laughter. In the last the present moment is affirmed as the only time in which action has any impact. There seems to be a readiness to face the next moment, almost as if the repetitions which stalled you in indecisiveness have ended. The closing line SAFE IN NOW seems to be a surprising moment of affirmation. BTW I live the opening image of a rain of daylight cascading over you.
