Roses Poem by Charles Burgos

Roses

Rating: 3.5

Like the folk tale about the 2 wolves battling each other
One good, one bad, no matter what, they depend on the other

We all have 2 sides, one good, one bad, which one will show
In some situations, we grow mad, sad, happy, who knows

Most of the time we talked, it was good, then went bad
That was who we were, we got off driving the other mad

I know you liked getting me going, watching me swing my arms around
Besides the slight studder, I looked like a chicken trying to leave the ground

It's amazing how it all started with words, flirting, and seductive glances
I put myself out there and tried, but didn't take all the chances

What started as innocent, turned into the worst possible plot
We both played the game, hurting each other, until the connection was shot

You once said I intrigued you, when we met that summer day
Years went by, then one day you said I was just a phase

I know you played games, just to get a reaction
I know you still liked me, you felt the attraction

We went our separate ways, talked here and there, but never long
You kept saying the same things, like a skipping record playing a song

I never understood you, I just wanted you there with me
But you can't cage a dove, who wants to be free

I admit I was a lion, with my bleach streaked hair, and Mohawk
I changed it all after a few months, and cut it off, and acted like a grown up

I wanted to be domesticated, tamed, and not wild
But certain circumstances arose, and brought out the inner child

The roses on my side, one white, the other black
Has a deep meaning, like the dragon on my back

We each fight the battle to find inner peace
With my chaotic ways, I was saying help me please

Energy, chaos, along with Alpha and Omega
You pressed all my buttons, like I was a Sega

That's who we are though, loving then fighting
You have to admit, it was pretty exciting

I admit sometimes we both got real dark
We went for each other, like a fish and shark

That's who we are though, we can't turn time back
We're both a rose though, one white, one black

Say what you want, tell me what you feel
Speak from your heart, let me know it's real

These are my words, my thoughts, my work to you
We don't talk anymore, what else can I do?

The fights we had, where few, small, and a couple bad
We were more than that though, even when we drove the other mad

I'm no longer a tiger in society, my true self is shown
No longer wild, I'm ready to be tamed, I'm yours to own

Hopefully you'll have me, waving arms, with a slight studder
The thought of compromise, won't make me run for cover

I ran out of stuff to say
Smile my rose, it's a new day
