Ride A Hard Road. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Ride A Hard Road.

Throw her back a gear
Hammer out the diesel
Feel the V8 roar
Sit her on her bum
Go where you cannot walk
Climb the sheer tracks
Forge the running river
Grab so tight you tremble
Make your palms sweat
Fall down the deep chasms
Go down yet further
Make those revs count
Pedal to the metal
You are the machine
You are the flogger
You are boss
Of the dangerous trails
You will come out
King at the road's end
Or die trying.
- - - - -
And all of the forest
And all of the bush folk
Watch you in silence.

Ride A Hard Road.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My tribute to the tuff trails of Australia. May they harden and take their toll.
