Representing Our Interests Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Representing Our Interests

'They' and 'them',
Of the thoughtless...
Greed feeding and selfish kind.
Who represent the interests...
Uh,
Who represent the interests...

"What's the problem?
Go ahead.
Let us hear it.
Tell it like it is."

Well...
My thoughts had been a little bit,
How can I put this?
Somewhat inconsiderate.
You see...
While making my speech,
I now have come to realize...
The ones thoughtless, greed feeding.
And of the selfish kind,
Are the ones we elected...
To represent our interests.

"I object.
Most of us are not thoughtless.
We think of ourselves all the time.
And that comment about 'greed feeding'?
You imply that is done on a daily basis.
And, speaking for myself...
That I do only around the holidays.
So I recommend you get your facts straight.
Before making such appalling speeches."

But...
I stopped myself.
To realize,
I was talking about us!

"US?
You don't know me.
Not to offend me like that."
