Remembering Once Poem by Randy McClave

Remembering Once

Once I truly loved you
I believed that we were destined to be two,
You were once my only desire
You had set my soul on fire.
When you were hungry I brought you food
Never did I know about another dude,
I happily gave you money to pay your bills
But, you used it to buy pills.
When you were tired I gave you a place to sleep
Never did I cause you to weep,
Your burdens and worries I didn't mind to bare
Because, I did care.
I took you to church with me to pray
And for you I prayed everyday,
Helping you was my want and my ultimate goal
I even worried about your soul.
Whenever you needed anything you called me
That call always made me so very happy,
I even once bought you clothes
And once a beautiful red rose.
I enjoyed taking you out to eat
And I enjoyed showing you off to everyone I did meet,
You always gave me so much pride
Especially, when you were at my side.
I was going to take you and travel the world
To have adventures and see other flags unfurled,
I wanted to take you were you have never been
To the lochs and a glen.
That was a memory from a long time ago
Since then new seeds you did sow,
Once upon a time you I truly did want and adore
But, now I don't care anymore.
