Remember Poem by Danusha Marie

Remember

He held her hand
So she would listen
To his tender voice
Her eyes did glisten

Remember when we first met
The lavender ribbon in your hair
Pale shade of pink on your lips
I stood in the corner and could only stare

Remember our very first kiss
I shook like a leaf in Autumn’s wind
You wrapped your arms around me
And I felt a love I knew I’d never rescind

Remember our wedding day
You were such a beautiful bride
I was the luckiest groom in the world
Knowing we’d be always together, side by side

Remember when our angel was born
Nervous new parents, but you a natural mother
Money was tight and things were tough
Our treasure was our family grand like no other

Remember when we hit that patch
Frustrations and doubts made a rough ride
Thank God for our friendship and our faith
Respect for our union saved us from getting lost in the tide

Remember when our angel grew
I the nervous father giving her away
You the radiant mother of the bride
We dreamt and fretted about that day

Remember when we celebrated
Fifty years of grit, love and bliss
We danced, kissed and sang all night
I still in awe, you said you’d always remember this

Remember how you were always strong
Kept me in line and nurtured my strength
Now roles have changed and you need me
I’ll do whatever, my dear, to any length

He held her hand
And started to sing
The song from their wedding
His loving melody a smile did bring

She remembers in her heart
If only for a while
But tomorrow he’ll come again
And reminisce in style
