Refugee Song Poem by Udaya R. Tennakoon

Refugee Song

Rating: 5.0

A broken heart by my land given
A panic stricken subject I am
A violent wind through I was blown
This is my second mother land

I am welcome and we are welcome
You are welcome, new land is welcome

Unfamiliar words that I bring
Values of my cultures ring
My heart and mind want to sing
To me this home be a wing

I am welcome and we are welcome
You are welcome, new land is welcome

Free from war and free from fear
Now I can stand smiling here
A new flower blossoms by my near
The beauty will touch the soil here

I am welcome and we are welcome
You are welcome, new land is welcome

Hopeless heart when I am gone
Hopeful heart now I here have
Power and gutter the wave of sea
Make me live of your home of free

I am welcome and we are welcome
You are welcome, new land is welcome
