Red Poem by Luke Fellner

Red

Coloring the night sky,
as if ink drops blooming through water>
A red tint, bright and obnoxious to the time.
Set out to set light on my shortcomings.

The air,
heavy,
sitting down low.
a fine mist of salty drops layer onto my wetting shoes.
A Squish under my feet, each step I take,
becoming ever so more uncomfortable
as I try to escape my mistakes.

high beams
burning brighter than the red
my eyes twitch away,
my stomach turning.

Please pick me up,
but don't be who I fear it is.

red tint
arises,
as the beams pass.

More beams,
slowing down this time
blinding my watered eyes.
Luckily?
like the ones before,
they pass me,
leaving me,
pushing shadows back around me.

The red falls to the ocean.
So do I, fall to my knees.
The red tint fades,
The high beams die.
Now wonder why I walked out
into that red-tinted sky?

Fear, I presume
from the lashback
my faulted love has caused.

Still, pick me up,
take me home.
I plead with the darkening sky,
Take me home,
take me home.
