Reality Poem by Lauren Domen

Reality

It all happened so fast that I did not see
But all along, I guess, it was meant to be
You had to leave me behind, and all the while, I’m screaming your name
Tears streak my face as I realize things will never be the same
I don’t know if you hear me, I don’t even know if you’re listening
The sky cries with me, tears glistening
I reach out to touch you, but you are like a ghost, you slip right through my fingers
All the while my heart just wants you to linger
Just for a little longer, stay
You don’t have to let me get my way
But at least let me say goodbye
Let me try to let go, let me try
It should not have been a surprise,
As the night turns into sunrise
And it all becomes reality
Your absence, it’s the finality
