English learnt as a foster tongue
Invites the novice to compose
An original masterpiece,
It need not be in prose,
Which, as everybody knows
Is tougher to write than verse.

The French liberated poesy

If one cannot find a rhyme,
Appropriate, in proper chime,
Or if the lilt is not iambic,
No need to get all frantic.
Just break up a long sentence
Into jagged poetaster lines.
You have the creative license.

Sometimes you have to choose
The form and content of your Muse.
Poetic prose or prosaic verse:
Which do you think is worse?
Prosaic prose, of course.
But better keep it terse.
Your long awaited magnum opus
Can make you genuinely famous.
