Promise You Broke Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Promise You Broke

Time cruelly came with cancer overwhelming
Forcing you to leave me, not by choice
Because your life's journey had reached its end
Forcing us to part, beloved beat of my heart.
You broke the promise made half-a-century ago
When we were young lovers, beautiful in love
Bold, resolute, finding such happiness and joy
Thinking we had found love's lasting paradise.
You promised never to leave me, our souls united.
But Death, ruthless, relentless, took you to the grave.
Soon I will follow stepping into the darkness.
Oh, beloved, you are love and joy of my life
And only promise you broke was to die before me.
Love survives the grave and we shall meet again.
