Prom 2 Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Prom 2

Prom 2

She, young and school girl
- (must've been, in last year.)
-with dream of prom
-far ahead…in her mind.

Looked for her partner
-a king and a lover…

Knew who but aloof…

"Can you make the toping
-in a way that will read:
- ‘Prom' with question mark?

The man in pizza shop
-Indian who works hard
- (a low-paid, dirty one
-to make sure can survive,)
-knew not word "Prom"!

"Why not talk English? "
-asked the guy not feeling
-intention; accented; insulted…

His reply was stone in sling
-aimed at girl's heart and head
-girl meant to invite him with pizza.

I traced the fight there
-silently; being an outsider,
-till the man showed paper.
-Felt obliged; explained.

He called back to show off:
- "I know and understand
-but is not possible and cannot! "

Very sad, I smiled, almost laughed…
-since found girl creative, a tender flower
-losing hope and fading when vary the cultures.
-Also felt the young chap; smothered immigrant…
