Pretend Poem by Sara Militello

Pretend

Pretend

Dancing to the wanton beat
of desire unspoke
in the shadow realm of ecstasy yoked
my heart pretends the moment is forever:

In this my reverie, one can love
enough for two.
Gliding in rhythmic steps apace
our eyes lock in tender embrace.
Our lips meet in a world serenely complete,
your love a bliss; a magic so repleat...

Alas!The music always ends
jolting me back to a separate wend
as from the brightness into the gloom
my mood descends into reality's room.

The dance is over. At its end.
The world is still there
to on its axis spin.
you are still the one I love
though my heart's the only one
that knows.

I'm still just another fool
in love with a dream.
