Paean To Love Poem by Sara Militello

Paean To Love

Paean to Love

Oh, that I could offer
a proper paean to our love
my joy might fill the coffers
of Venus smiling from above

Would I could convey
near enough for you to know
the subtle-and-not-so way
I remember you today...

I felt I'd gone to Heaven
when in your loving embrace I lay
though I'm certainly no maven
about that special highway.

Just know I'll never worry
nor will I ever fret
about being sorry
we ever laughed, loved or met.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One of my favorite quotes of Edna St. Vincent Millay's is this one:

'After all my erstwhile dear, my no longer cherished;
Need we say it was not love, just because it perished? '

We ever laughed - positive emotions prove that it was true love ansd no waste of time! I also liked your humbleness- that you say I'm certainly no maven About that special highway. Usually in many stupid popular love songs they forget to mention this VERY important sober and truthful insight! Thank you!
