Porch: The Return Poem by bob barci

Porch: The Return

It’s been too long, my friend.
Too long since I’ve been out here,
out here on the porch.
How I looked forward
to being here with you,
but wouldn’t you know,
I got detained and sidetracked
and things just kept me away.
I’ve missed too many summer evenings here.
Too many rainstorms passed me by.
Too many full moons came and left without me.
So much life that I didn’t get to see.
But, most importantly, I’ve missed you.
I realize that now,
having slipped back out here to the porch.
Too much has been missed, having stayed away.
Through the trees, across the way
shines the full moon.
Maybe that’s what drew me out here tonight.
But, for whatever reason,
my porch sitting sessions
have been resumed.
