Poem Hunter 5 - Ode To Classic Poets Of Poem Hunter - Langston Hughes - Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Poem Hunter 5 - Ode To Classic Poets Of Poem Hunter - Langston Hughes -

Rating: 5.0

The eight splendid lines of "Dreams"
Penned by Langston Hughes
Is my daily prayer
Which I hold steadfastly,
Like a piece of precious jewellery,
A poem that makes me dance,
Like a colourful butterfly on earth,
And enables me to fly in the sky like a bird!

Listen to the wise words of Langston Hughes:

"Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow."

I am a dancer, a singer,
And of late, a poetess too,
Who developed wings of dreams!
Dreams that took me far and wide,
Dreams that let me fly with the winds,
Dreams that let me hold the exquisite ‘Mudras',
Dreams that let me breathe the fresh air of freedom
Dreams that made my life fragrant and joyful!

I could not let go off my dreams
To dance, sing or write!
For if I had done so,
Life would have been
Like a barren land or a dreary desert,
Without a green patch or a green field,
Without bright leaves or scented flowers,
Without tall trees or majestic mountains!

Most importantly, without a page in Poem Hunter!

An outstanding tribute paid to the classic poet Langston Hughes and his inspirational poem on the role of dreams in shaping the destiny of human beings. The inspiration drawn from it that helped in motivating you to shift the art medium from dance to poetry with equal proficiency and ease at appropriate timing in life is quite laudable.

Your background in dance and song truly flowers through your poetry; such a creative harmonic naturally organized core soars through your poetry- reminding us of and celebrating the simplistic and the complex. Once again, thank you for your lovely poetry! Waking my day up with flowers and butterflies!

.....and I still mesmerize the days that I have SEEN YOU on performances in The Netherlands. I regretted and still regret that I have not asked you for a signature or made a chat the days that you were present in The Netherlands. BUT I am also a very shy person. I still see you dancing graciously. When I see you dancing, you took me to another realm, my dear poetess. WOW! My Dr. Geeta I have seen her personally.Thank you dear God.

Another of my favorite poets, Geeta, who in his best known poems had the wisdom to be pithy—pithy but powerful and easy to memorize. Yes, let us hold fast to dreams. This is what I wish for and admire for my son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter and all people—but especially the young just making their way in life. -Glen

An exceptionally beautiful review of the poem (Dreams) as well as an Ode to its composer Langston Hughes. As you have admitted to its impact, the poem must have inspired innumerable other readers since it was published long back. Thank you very much, Geeta ji, for this Ode and this series.
