Pluto Gets Some Respect Poem by Kevin Scanlon

Pluto Gets Some Respect

Pareidolia has some seeing a dark whale nuzzling a heart on Pluto
Though the romance of this distant world is now yielding to technology
Once the ninth planet, now just a dwarf but still huge in significance
It has ice volcanoes under blue skies and is largely crater-free.

It was the first object to be called Planet X before it was discovered
Now a class of dwarfs known as the plutoids has been named for it
And it's the largest one, but in regards to mass Eris has it beat
Poor Pluto couldn't 'clear its neighborhood' so it's not a planet?

While it may be no giant Jupiter hitting on comets with great gravity
Or Saturn with its sexy rings, and not fire our passion like Mars does
Yet it has five adoring moons hugging its beige-orange landscape
No longer a pixelated blob, photogenic Pluto has astronomical buzz.

You had me at pareidolia. I like this piece. It took effort and had plenty to keep me interested. Well-constructed. Nice job.
