Phantom Lover Poem by Arlene Faith Kortright

Phantom Lover

Oh, phantom lover in the dead of night
You gaze at me with those bedroom eyes
Your fever melts into my skin
And wakes my sleeping heart again
Forbidden kisses take my breath
My body's rendered powerless
I've waited for you in my dreams
Always knowing you'd return to me
My heart still beats for love, so real,
A love that even time can't steal
Oh, phantom lover let's ride away
On a stallion white as snow someday
Take me to your heart's desire
Where true love burns like wildfire
Over the threshold, into your world
To that timeless place, where I'm yet a girl
Behind your eyes, where forever dwells
For you and me, and no one else
Oh, phantom lover, till my dreams come true
I'll sleep each night and dream of you
