Ph: Love: A Trembling Rose Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Love: A Trembling Rose

Rating: 5.0

Such a trembling rose! She has something to hide,
Feigns her cough hoping Prince will remain by her side,
Though she loves him, in fact, she is loath to declare,
Her connection to one with two feet, could he care?

Though he watered her daily, her beauty extolled,
And he'd shelter her petals should air be too cold,
Or (if sleeping)from things that might bump in the night,
On boy's world, this one Rose is life's fragrant delight.

Opportunity knocks, the Prince wants to know more,
He attends to his rose then sets off to explore,
It is not till he leaves her she shares her regret,
Her Prince does feel her words, but he takes his leave yet.

As he travels, (a flock of birds helps him to move?)
New worlds found with more roses, but who can reprove
The time spent with his Rose (seems her memory's fire!)
For mere distance has nothing to do with desire!

Meets a pilot (crash landed)their friendship jumpstarts
Man's repairs to his plane and it opens both hearts,
Of the boy, of the man, two souls lost in distress,
And they both learn to value the things they possess!

For the pilot, the air is the path he must take,
But the boy opts instead to shed skin like a snake! (1)
Both move forward in faith and trust what they can't see,
New friends follow fresh dreams toward their soul's history!

Poet's Notes:
It is my prayer that my poor poem will induce some of you to
read my favorite book in the whole world, "The Little Prince, "
first published in April 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,
French aristocrat, artist, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator.
(1) I'm sorry but a footnote is inadequate to explain this
incredible line, you deserve the book's explanation.

(cont.) stanza 5 not very clear for me. it sounds like the boy-Prince can't stay put. thanks for Poet's Notes, though it IS inadequate! bri :) i've especially enjoyed reading Robinson Crusoe (3 times) over my lifetime. maybe i will once again?

For those of you familiar with the poetic musings of Bri Edwards and myself, it is clear that as in the TV show 'Greatest American Hero' where he loses the instruction book for the 'Super Suit' left for him by 'Aliens, ' when both Bri and I were born, our parents (not us) forgot to take the instruction book home from the hospital! Mea culpa!

a real rose, as in 'bush'? i've heard of rose hips, but not feet. boy = Prince? but he takes his leave yet i think you use but like instead, and yet could replace but, BUT THEN you'd lose your rhyme (regret/yet) . nice work. i've heard of traveling by Greyhound (bus) , but not 'by' a flock of birds! REPROVE: verb reprimand or censure (someone) . (cont.)

Hiding a rare treasure under a heap of extended metaphors, is something I have observed about Brian. ha! A beautiful poem inspired by an intriguing story. Love is indeed the essence of life! One day, perhaps we shall all meet and dine with the Little Prince!

Hi, Brian, I enjoyed this. The line Mere distance has nothing to do with desire is particularly well-crafted. I haven't read the book but will check it out now.
