Ph: Life: A Melancholy Morning Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Life: A Melancholy Morning

I lift my nose to sniff the air,
And smell, in fact, scant odor there,
And barely shadow do I find,
(A fragile remnant of my mind) .

I'm clean and shaved, dressed for success,
But still, I feel an emptiness,
I hear birds singing in the trees,
Could that be all, "Do what you please? "

That has an empty ring to me,
Though not a Prince of poetry!
Real understanding's like a tide,
And high or low, a gift, not pride!

Am I the captain of my soul?
Outside events can eat me whole!
One man like Trump can trash my day
His humor even cause dismay!

My God! I hope in heaven still.
Though I don't always do Your will,
Your Grace, our key to heaven's door,
Your Love, our freedom to explore.

Life has the feel of being rushed,
That death might mean our dreams get crushed,
Forgive me Lord (when I doubt soul) ,
That in Your will I might die whole!
