Pay Attention Poem by Linda Engwall

Pay Attention

Life is simple
When we pay attention to what is important
Often we don’t
Until we are caught in that moment

You know the one that makes you want to bargain
For your life or for the life of a love one
You pray to do better
Repent
Give up all your demons
Do it right now
If you will be granted this one wish

When you get what you had prayed for
You question if all you said must have made the difference
And now you have to give what
You bargained for, you have to pay up

Instead of learning to always pay attention
To what ultimately moves us all
Life is really that simple
Pay attention
To the things that in the end will be the only things
You will ever care about
