Paul Poem by Bethany Waters

Paul

Rating: 5.0

He is the boy on the haystack with the moon in his eye
The one standing by the railway saying goodbye
He’s climbing the barbed wire fence and caught at the top
The one whose mind is running and won’t ever stop
He’s wading through the chilled, rocky, shallow stream
The one with no fears, or so it would seem
He’s sitting at a highway rest stop singing his heart
The one who sat on a boxcar and bid it all start
He’s busy caged under the railroad bridge listening
The one whose emotions show in his eye’s glistening
He’s shared a dozen sun rise mornings talking into trees
The one who rests confident in the world, hands on knees
He’s the challenge, the uncertain, and the friendship truth
The one who is a picture of ever-changing youth
He had taken my hand and slowly changed what I thought
The one who proved that friendship wasn’t for naught
