Passing The Scepter Of Illusion (Satan's Elegy) Poem by Ray Lucero

Passing The Scepter Of Illusion (Satan's Elegy)

"I have often taken the guise of priest,
standing in an attitude of supreme dignity by side of alter, saying to his Christian successor, who had entered the temple with fear and trembling, even though a squad of soldiers were on his heels to protect him while he took possession of the premises. With a deep sigh I say, "Oh brother, it will be but a change in form and not in substance, for all religions are the same, being the offspring of man's brain, for they cannot differ greatly! The flock must have their "lares and penates" in their homes, statues and images in the temples. They must have at the hand of the priest their signs, wonders and miracles just as they look for their bread and circuses at the hands of the political leaders, or else you will lose control."

How is it possible to make a more sublime god than "God the Father" wrapped in majesty, and Dweller in infinite space!Perhaps you can improve upon the cloud-encircled heaven, set high above the reach of man, with it's wondrous glory of light and color.Give them hope of the ultimate attainment through service to you the messenger of God.Tell them not how enlightenment is possible without you, for it would bring down the walls of this great temple!
Feed the flock enough to sustain their bodies.Let them taste the sweet waters of hope and promises of the abundance awaiting them in heaven.Never let the feel the weight of your sandal upon their neck....
