Parting Poem by Jeff Stoddart

Parting

And I looked into your eyes, past the sadness and the lies
As I tried to reach the depths of your soul,
But skilfully you turned, as parts within me yearned
To mend the broken pieces..
Make it whole.

How sad that many years ago, the light had burned so bright
The flame was fanned by many words of care
But now that love is old
And feelings long grown cold,
Two broken hearts
Not easy to repair.

Perhaps our time is over, with nothing left to say
Whatever words we say may not sound right
Perhaps it's what we wanted
Perhaps another day
May give us other reasons
Shed some light....?

Yet both of us, we surely know the time has come to part
And both must bear the pain
With deep regret
For both of us are foolish
And neither have the heart
To stop...remember...listen,
And reflect.
