Panchali, The Empress Poem by Narayana Raghavan

Panchali, The Empress

Rating: 1.0

She arose from fire
in midlist of chanting of hymns
sages and hermits uttering mantra
she was a flame, yellow and red

her gaze electrifying
thunderstorms in her
reverberating heart
the pain she carried
in all her rebirths

when her modesty was challenged
before the court, of jealously men
who stripped layers of her skin
she shone like molten gold

the heat generated killed
the sperms in testicles
of greedy men who disrobed her
making them impotent for life

she was the fire of eternal bliss
and was blessed by
heavens, she wedded five
elements of nature
she was a chaste wife
of Pandavas, daughter
of mighty king Druptha

She was crowned
the empress of India
she blessed the land
with fertility
and ruled her kingdom
with righteousness.

people of this land
still adore her
she is apple in their eyes
