Owerri; My City Poem by Amobi Freeman N

Owerri; My City

Owerri!
A city full of men with bigwills
Where everyone wakes up everyday to make way
Where bushes are separated from ant-hills
A city where the young people know how to press 'play'

A place with blue-prints of a paradise on earth
With city-lights streamlined across the major roads
The unsighted part of the environment can't make you sick
Because everything is under control

At 'Ama-J.K', I stand to board a taxi to ITC
But I hear echoes of: WorldBank Control! .. Whetheral Port-Harcourtroad! ..
Amakohia Akwakuma! Alvan FMC!
And blowing horns of pee pee pee! ! ! Poh poh poh! ! !

Those are commercial vehicles plying the four-corners of the bustling city
Running past the busiest fast-foods and the finest hotels
Picking passengers that are littered around like empty water sachets
Let one take you round so you can discover more marvels yourself

Though full of bogus meaningless infrastructure
Been led by men that are yet to find the culture
We have the most fair-complexioned people in Nigeria
And the finest girls, come to my area

I welcome you to Owerri
A city that has the hottest radio station
Blazing from Yar'Adua Lane
And the most proficient poet
Bursting from Standard-Shoe Lane
