Once Upon A Time On Northline Poem by Uriah Hamilton

Once Upon A Time On Northline

My life has been a nightmare for sometime
and continues to descend irrevocably into darkness,
But the time I spent riding with you through nearby neighborhoods
and talking about either childhood sorrows or 90's dance music
was like a respite from tears, a momentary escape from fears,
it meant more to me than you'll ever know.

You shared with me your own difficult times:
physical abuse from someone obsessed with you,
a child you wished you knew, a father you should have known longer,
choices that may still break your heart,
I took it all in and said my prayers for you.

Now, I reread the note you sent to me:
'I found a guy who I truly love and I'm happy.
I hope you understand.'

I never desired more troubles for you,
I don't desire that now.
I understand.
