Once Upon A Cross Poem by Arno Le Roux

Once Upon A Cross

Politics

'Once Upon A Cross'

So the sharpened lifeless pencils back in their boxes till resurrection day

They were hugged for hours discussing the sentence questionare

Have imported an exclusive mix of sweet and savoury and the best of wine for 'some'

Reduced the line of cross makers to the few who a debt is owed. The wine for some

The crowd was drunk with exitement, some in tears

Value of the brand new servant on a stage sealed with an oath

Of all the oaths this one too required a hand on an old leathery cover

The oather listened deep to the message of the priestly man

Good news! The servant would always have help in darker hours!

Book under handed for all to witness this solemn calling

To which the nervous servant's eyes fanned the audience hard looking

A man in the finest suit travelled far to offer again his expensive smile

Heavy question, 'Where will your help come from? ' And the servant winked back

Mere mortals love the classy entertainment, the Romans would be proud. 'Panem et Circenses'

Paper has it that that the Church even agreed the proceedings had been fair

Weight around their necks was a mere pencil, but a heavy one indeed... Till resurrection day for the pencils...
