On The Solemn Line Poem by Gerry Legister

On The Solemn Line

We depart and leave only memories behind,
Unending deeds of omission still pursuing,
Names that labor hour will never again find
Hurrying time with activities up and doing.

Sailing on life's solemn line, a forlorn figure
Seeing every opportunity now left behind
Some had run but most was in the future
Fulfilment to come in visions of the mind.

The living act in the present with a thought
Let the deadly past be dead and buried
God is upper head and within the heart
Seeing all that we do was a price well paid.

For the soul is not dead that slumber
But we cannot tell that to the mourner.

I often think about one's final moments and wonder what it will be like. I wonder if I will be prepared.
