On Grief Poem by B. V. Dahlen

On Grief

There never is a good time
to say the word goodbye.
When love is there between you
you never wish to try,

but sometimes, no one asks us
What we would like to do,
and those we love are taken.
Our lives are torn askew.

A void that is unfillable
the days before us spanned.
We shake our fist at heaven.
We can not understand

why such a partnership as ours
is separated now.
The grief is overwhelming.
Under it's yoke we bow,

and then one day,
a grandchild's grin
will spark a smile from you.
The days will move much faster.
You'll find some residue

of joy in cherished memories,
in a mundane daily chore,
and God will slowly give you back
a joy you can't ignore.

So now rest in your sorrow.
The answer to your prayer
is here with arms around you,
your family's loving care.
