कि हमारे पास ऐसा कोई तोहफ़ा नहीं है जो हाकिम को समझा सके;

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
On Being Asked For A War Poem by William Butler Yeats
I THINK it better that in times like these
A poet's mouth be silent, for in truth
We have no gift to set a statesman right;
He has had enough of medding who can please
A young girl in the indolence of her youth,
Or an old man upon a winter's night.

Yeats has got it right about war. His Irish spirit shows through in some poems, like this one.

Yes, it reflects his, and many of us, aversion to war and the devastation that comes in its wake.

So true! It is better to be silent than to voice a opinion on a topic like war where there is no solution. A brilliant poem so brilliantly translated by dear Rajnish ji.

Quite a good poem, but not strongly anti-war, nor pro-war. Therefore to me it lacks passion. M.Walker.

I think you are right, Michael. The poet is silent about the savagery of war or about how it can be eliminated or minimized.
