Oh, The Troubles Poem by Kathryn L. Smalley

Oh, The Troubles

Eric loved to party and he lived a fast paced life
He thought he knew his limits and yet still had come his strife
He lost himself in alcohol and all he saw was double.
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, seeing double.

Matthew was a bright young man, but lived with silent pains
To take away the sorrow, he’d shoot sunshine in his veins
He lost himself in heroin, and threw away his only life
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, save his life.

Melissa loved her mother so; their shopping trips and talks
But when her mother killed herself, she’d secured all her locks
She closed her door in sadness and let no one ever in
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, from within.

Maria’s father left her young, leaving her quite perplexed
So when she caught a boy’s attention, you know what’d happen next.
She gave it up so many times, but still she felt this hole
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, please console.

Now Anna was a nice girl who’s grades were good and high
But when her stepdad came home, she wanted just to die
He touched her and abused her in ways she couldn’t bear
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, always there.

Eric in a car crash and Matthew in a coma
Melissa hanging from a beam somewhere in Oklahoma
Maria dying from disease and Anna in despair
Oh the trouble, Oh the trouble, Oh the troubles that we share.
