Ode To My God Mother Poem by Tosin Abegunde

Ode To My God Mother

Rating: 5.0

While in your compartmentalized womb
Struggling to get a form
Just as many a monumental foetus,
The diagnostic test on the foetal throb
Suggested my fate to the midwives
Amidst trembling, hope and audacity
As high, average or low.

Like a hot iron dross, at birth
Your cuddle forged me,
Creating in me a pure heart
That sees all tongues equal
And retains unity in diversity
That all who pass through your womb
Be richly endowed.

As an innocent toddler
Breaking forth at the dawn of reality,
You led me through a rough road;
Reduced me to rubble;
And baptized me in this academic Euphrates;
Like one in the vale of shadow of death
That I may earn a smooth destination.

In this maternal enclave, you
Injected me with discerning fluid which in turn
Taught me to take destiny by its horns
And irrigates the hands of my in-sight
To wash our yesterday's wound,
Relieve today of her agonies and regrets
That my tomorrow may leap for joy.

As an eaglet you taught me flight:
You made me soar against violent wind,
And dare the blistering sun alike
Yet the strength in me wane not
Because I've been baked in your kiln
And got the gut tovstand up tall
To stand the test of time.

Having got the gtip to clamber and trample
We cluster to scatter as intelligentsias
Just as ants dice for a chunk of icing sugar
And melt into the euphoria of inquiry
To know the science behind mathematics of language art
Aided by pedagogies and empiricism
In two worlds apart yet with one voice.

Thank you dear alma mater
For equipping my hands with skills to impart
And giving me an enablement with impart
To exploit my limitless potentialities and
Have my cap feathered in glory.
Indeed success is a journey, not a destination
For whoever desires to be greater in heights tomorrow.
