Not Too Many Years Ago Poem by Raymond Farrell

Not Too Many Years Ago

Not too many years ago
I can remember clearly
When government was over there
Not here, there, and everywhere
As it is today
What began as a trend
Hastened with the advent
Of the PC and internet
Rapidly government
Became more intrusive
They want to get under the sheets with you
Look over your shoulder
At what you're reading
Listen in on your conversation
Stick their fingers in your pudding
Put their wooden spoon
Into you beans and chili
Shut you up
Shut you down
Threaten you to get in line
Tell you what to think
Mandate what will be acceptable
And restrict your rights
But in spite of all this
The Sheeple keep voting
For more government in their lives
Hoping the government (which produces nothing)
Will somehow provide for their needs
Forgetting that the government
Can only give
What it has taken
From someone else.
