Not Enough Poem by April Monroe

Not Enough

Not Enough

Not sure what else I can do
To make you long for me as I long for you
I try to rub, caress and stroke
Yet my actions can't provoke
I can't help but think I'm not enough
Not beautiful, graceful or tough
But I try to make you see
You're everything I'll ever want and need
Maybe longing just can't suffice
Maybe I should think twice
Before I show you how I feel
Knowing that what you show isn't real
I walk on eggshells each and every day
So you have nice things to say
But it seems no matter how hard I try
I'm not enough and I don't know why
My only choice is to continue what I do
Clean, work, pretend and care for you
These things at least make you stay
Even though I feel I'm in your way
Then one day you might see
What I needed from you to help me be me
And perhaps, you'll love everything I do
Instead of hoping I'll be who you thought you knew
