M.A.G.A. Poem by April Monroe

M.A.G.A.

I walked slowly with a sway
My 'MAGA' hat leading the way
From a distant corner I heard angry voices shout,
'Get back, get back, you DEVIL! OUT! '
In an instant, as I tried to speak, I felt a push,
A kick, a punch and heard a 'Shush! '
My mouth went dry, then wet from blood,
I cried, 'What makes you think I can't love? '
They heard not a word as my face got smashed,
Words shoved down my throat as I thrashed
When the beating was finally done,
The one with no permit, pulled out his gun
'If you want to live, this is what you must do,
Denounce the flag, free speech and Him too! '
'No sir, I will not, ' I said with a grin
Upon standing up on one shattered shin
'I'll instead say ‘Merry Christmas' to you
As I stand for my flag: RED, WHITE and BLUE! '

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was written during the most divisive presidential election I've ever encountered. A true depiction of hate towards one group.
