No God Poem by DUW Robinson

No God

Rating: 2.7

f there were no God
There would be no beauty
No scorching heat nor howling wind
No fallen leaves and stormy seas
Nor unripe berries and birds tweets
No drunken sailor in a barrel of rum a-drinking
No empty cups and hollow dreams
There would be no fun and gay music
No sweet voice to whisper to me
Nor sound in my throat when I try to speak
No girl in the meadow star-gazing
No wine nor farmer on the palm tree
No hearts to hurt and wounds to heal
No subject and king nor you and me
No broken pictures and scattereddreams
There would be no Texas and cowboy a-riding
Nor fish in the sea nor hell for sin
No goodbye nor hug nor kiss
No hate in this ol'world nor angels in heaven
No angels tears as rain and gods'fury as lightning
No hashtag nor poking nor pinging
No television to remind me of some distant famine
There would be no want nor need nor lies nor greed
No bruises nor fights nor wives and kids
No darkness at all nor sun to see
No penchance for alcohol nor drug-feasting teens
No blood-once-a-mo nth nor need for repenting
There would be no AIDS nor syphillis
Nor accidents and cryings
No St.Peter hung upside down dying
No blinks nor shrugs nor half-hearted promises
No hellos to your neighbour in the morning
No Christmas nor halloween
No blood which gives life but death when bleeding
No voices inside my head when I'm sleeping
No scientists to tell me that dinosaurs where once living
Nor fathers driving home from work in the evening
Nor friends with which to go dancing
There would be no lion and beetle and penguin
No Columbus nor America nor Washington
No black nor white nor glass prisms
No need to send half the earth to prison
No need to close your eyes and pretend you're sleeping
Nor motorbikes and helmets and headlamps shining
No ship in the distance pouring smoke like a volcano erupting
No sickness and madness nor Jesus for the healing
Nor potholes in Nigerian roads nor agberus touting
Nor need for law and engineering and medicine and university
No need to cut trees for paper and write on the paper 'say no totree cutting'
There would be no love and lust and eyes that are revealing
No shrines and figurines and maps and mathematics
No messages in my inbox nor eye-blinking
Nor time-wasting nor mansions nor stealings
No memories and intelligence and this poem-writing.
If there were no God
There would be no God.
