No Be Stone; Na Beans! Poem by Nwaga Philip

No Be Stone; Na Beans!

Descend! descend! ! cauldrons high on the fiery mount
We wait your plunge from the fiery hills
Thumpy pulses to the vesper's chime
Droopy falls bolt our helpless gape
Dogged defiance at the smoky rage
Gallant cinders beneath dauntless steams
Crimson eyes behind hazy shades
Scalded hands on forlorn hips
No be stone, na beans...

Stay strong,
Kinship of the resolute
Pray,
Have we not defied ravenous days
When men made mince of men
for bread and broth?
Or when hapless duets made deities' meal
For peace and stately calm?
Soul songs to the rumble in you
And hum to the ricketty's ride
For too soon,
Shall this these towers of Jericho
To Nirvana make way
No be stone, I say, na beans...

Stand fast,
Seeds of the great Ravens
It evades my grasp,
Why battered lips tell our fate with the certitude of sunrise
Or how doubtful palms on failing sight
See our morrow
Say,
Is it nothing to you that we make pillows of nature's wealth
And dung hills of her springs?
Tell those crafts that conceal tomorrow
Wait we will,
For these cooking pebbles must make meals
Fan the faggots, stir the broth!
Send words on the wings of the nearest wind
No be stone, na beans...

Stay sure,
Daughters of the defiant
Scorn the redolence of Esau's broth
Lest you make mad music of your steaming bowels
Tell,
Raven jewels of our sandy shores
What reason must our ounces of grace sell for morsels of lore?
Why must our regal palates be scalded with blistering rations of ignominy?
Today, faith lies at the wield of the little man
For the piper strums his pipe and plies his pay
Wait, we will
These pebbles must make pulses
No be stone, na beans...

Stay standing,
Tender shoots of the mighty oak
Has it not made tales in the arena
How, in aeons made yore
These wastelands laid, looms of boom and blooms?
Now no longer,
Shall unrighteous fangs make meal on the seeds of our anguish
Nor mortar music mob our ears
Send words to 'Eneke', 'No perch for the wicked' save the bull's eye! '
These steaming cauldrons bear our broth of hope

No be stone, na beans...
No be stone, na Quality education
No be stone, na Religious tolerance
No be stone, na Social justice and Development
No be stone, na Technological advancement
No be stone, na Patriotism
No be stone, na Peace and Harmony
No be stone, na Love and Honesty
No be stone, na GROWTH
No be stone, na REBIRTH
No be stone, na ENLIGHTENMENT
No be stone, na EMPOWERMENT
No be stone, na NIGERIA
No be stone, na YOU
No be stone, na ME

No be STONE, na BEANS.
One day...
e go done! ! !
