Nights In New Orleans Poem by Aphrodite Anastasia Menegaki

Nights In New Orleans

Rating: 4.5

Alleys, crooks and an old witch
Voodoo, ghosts and a little wine
I found a spell to make you mine
It won't hurt, won't give you an itch

Nights in New Orleans, nights in New Orleans
Shadows by the coast of Mississippi
Nights in New Orleans, gumbo and red beans
Dancing, drinking in Tabasco's Jazzy City
Mardi Gras feast and black sugar of dreams
Haunted streets of Voodoo queens

Cajun myths and my gris gris
I found a gator beneath your house
Guess you could blame your little mouse
Bad luck; you gave that golden key

Nights in New Orleans, nights in New Orleans
Shadows by the coast of Mississippi
Nights in New Orleans, gumbo and red beans
Dancing, drinking in Tabasco's Jazzy City
Mardi Gras feast and black sugar of dreams
Haunted streets of Voodoo queens

It don' madda if you can't understand
N'awlins, where laws are defied
Made some friends on the other side
I let a witch read the lines of my hand

Nights in New Orleans, nights in New Orleans
Shadows by the coast of Mississippi
Nights in New Orleans, black sugar of dreams
Dancing, drinking in Tabasco's Jazzy City
But can't heal my wounded heart, it seems
In the streets of Voodoo queens…
